The history of Les Usines Métallurgiques intermingles with that of the file.
Homo sapiens man's ancestors filed their weapons and tools, which is one aspect, albeit modest, of the evolution of the human race. Astronauts have used vallorbe files on the moon. For over a century, Vallorbe has been successfully modernising this age-old activity. We have progressed from manual cutting, as practiced in the 19th century, to robotised cutting; from independent craftsmen to a group of local manufacturers who chose to call themselves "Les Usines Métallurgiques de Vallorbe" in tribute to the metallurgical vocation of their region.
